Going Loco (or Local)
I have since recovered from Friday night's debauchery. Accomplished a few things in the process also. I managed to clean up the apartment a bit, including mopping and bringing a brillian luster to my wood floors (exciting eh?). I also went down to the park and shot some hoops for a little while. Basketball, by the way, was invented by a Canadian living and working in Springfield, MA at the time. Who cares right? Well, there's one local reference for you. I then played a shitload of NHK 2k5 on the XBOX. Finally finished the season. My Bruins swept the competition in every round of the playoffs to win the Stanley Cup. Now I'm in the offseason where I need to re-sign players whose contracts are ending, scout young, acquire free agents and trade with other teams construct an even better team for next season. However, I'm going to take a break on that for a little while. Since it is now Baseball season, I need to pay attention to that game. Although, it may make more sense to play Hockey in the summer and Baseball in the winter, but too late for that, the mind has been made up already.
Speaking of sports... I created a sub-blog yesterday as well. You'll find the link to the right. I know when all of you think of me, you think of atheleticism (as opposed to say... sarcasm) so I created a separate blog just for sports talk. With the Sox on now, I'll have some commentary to provide, plus with my involvement in a few fantasy leagues, it will allow me to digress a little more on that topic without cluttering up Canadia Mania more than it is. So, you can always feel free to check that out when you want.
Last night I also watched the season finale of Battlestar Galactica. Mind-blowing. It was unbelievable. Anyone who has not seen that show yet has no idea what they're missing at all. It's the best show on TV. Period. And probably one of the best sci-fi shows EVER.
Now onto Local (or Loco) matters. I get the newspaper delivered here on Saturdays and Sundays. But during the week, and even on the weekend, I like to stay up on what's going on in the Boston Globe and Springfield's Republican (it was better when it was the Union News). Two articles caught my eye from the Sunday Republican today: "Diocese unveils plan for Latinos" and "German-Americans strive to keep heritage". At first I wondered if they were related in anyway. But alas, there are no free train rides in store for Western Mass' ever-growing "latin" community. Now what I just wrote seems pretty harsh, and no I don't really think we should use the Germans like that, but man, well... I could actually write a book on the topic but I won't cuz, I don't feel like it right now. But I just found the two headlines, when put together, appealed to my sense of humor!
That brings us to today. What shall I do? Well, that's a great question. I need to do laundry but they just replaced the machines with these new machines that need a card as opposed to coins. And since I haven't been able to get a hold of my landlord to get a card, I guess I won't be doing laundry just yet. I may go out for a walk or something, play some more bball. I'll probably play some XBOX Baseball too. I've got 2 DVDs sitting on my TV I haven't watched yet (Shawn of the Dead, and The Godfather) maybe later I'll watch those. We'll see.
